Finally the full length! I was super happy about their singles last year so I was super amped for this album. Thank you maple dudes for totally bitchin out the sound for the album, because my god its clear as day. Though I do favor My Opinion and So So Happy Making in their previous form and I am more than royally peeved about the HUGE changes made to Snap My Hands, retitled Give Me The Gift. I’d liken the album to the darkest happiest day of the week, a wednesday. Some stylish tracks, but as a former fan I’m a bit displeased with their dancier turn, especially compared to their demo track How Soon Was Then.

Album: Trip Thru Hell Genre: Severely under appreciated 60s psychedelia Where: Minneapolis Who: Erwin Brothers, Doug Reynolds, Paul Samuels, Tom Pohling Year: 1968 Label: CandyFloss Similar: The PB Conspiracy, Clear Light, Bubble Puppy, 9 days wonder
This album is epic in its own solitary right, even without mention of the most amazing psychedelic solo ever on the track Underground Music. Infamous? Well, technically this band was never truly recognized for their vision until the past few years. bless ‘em. As a trumpet enthusiast this is one of my favorite albums. Each track takes the word triumphant to a completely new realm, with luscious vocal samples, down right groundbreaking psychedelic guitar solos (inspiring artists like john frusciante and george clinton) i.e. Trip Thru Hell (part 2), and refreshing amounts of brass instrumentation followed by fantastical elements of bass and rhythm.

Mostly because this album is notoriously epic for electronic and psychedelic musics alike. pish posh if you are not pleased with my laziness. The head phone experience alone gives me the hugest hard on. The Visitations would have to be my favorite. I’d liken the entire album to a uniquely tropical, beautifully delicate, high voltage, space age, acid trip of which I can only let myself imagine.

Album: The Elephant Tree Demo Genre: Folk, Instrumental, Shoegaze, Fingerpicking Where: Purchase, NY Who: Eric Rodriguez, Steve Flannery on gretsch guitar, Andrew Carlos Knott Year: 2009 Label: Unsigned Similar: Kaki King, On Travel, Ghosts & Mysteries
This is a truly fantastic album. I mean look it brought me back from a month hiatus. I forget how I stumbled upon these guys but they can really fit “that” mood, for lack of better expression. If you dig the guitar stylings of the great Kaki King, then try her male counter parts. Each track is comprehensively dynamic, yet fluid and nurturing. I’m a big fan of Lexington Ave. Ghost (The North American Myth) for its raga like structure and essential break down, exquiste rhythmic intentions. Their sound refreshing though nothing groundbreaking, just strictly full of talent and quality. A dreamy, worthy listen. But, but, but, in regards to their image don’t bother looking it up, because it’ll ruin it, sadly enough. I think their working on it, but for now just let your ears do the judging, as it should be.
